อุทยานแห่งชาติตาดหมอก ครอบคลุมพื้นที่อำเภอเมืองเพชรบูรณ์ จังหวัดเพชรบูรณ์ เนื้อที่ประมาณ 181,250 ไร่ หรือ 290 ตารางกิโลเมตร มีทรัพยากรธรรมชาติที่สำคัญและมีค่า เช่น พันธุ์ไม้ ของป่า สัตว์ป่านานาชนิด ตลอดจนทิวทัศน์ ป่า ภูเขา และน้ำตกที่สวยงามยิ่ง

อุทยานแห่งชาติตาดหมอก จังหวัดเพชรบูรณ์ เนื่อง
จากบริเวณที่ดินป่าตะเบาะ และป่าห้วยใหญ่ ในท้องที่ตำบลห้วยใหญ่
ตำบลบ้านโคก และตำบลนาป่า อำเภอเมืองเพชรบูรณ์ จังหวัดเพชรบูรณ์
อาณาเขตทิศเหนือติดกับอุทยานแห่งชาติน้ำหนาว เขตรักษาพันธุ์สัตว์ป่าภูผาแดง
จังหวัดเพชรบูรณ์ ทิศใต้จดเขตรักษาพันธุ์สัตว์ป่าตะเบาะ-ห้วยใหญ่
จังหวัดเพชรบูรณ์ ทิศตะวันออกจดเขตรักษาพันธุ์สัตว์ป่าภูเขียว
จังหวัดเพชรบูรณ์ ทิศตะวันตกจด อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดเพชรบูรณ์
ประกอบด้วยทรัพยากรธรรมชาติที่สำคัญและมีค่า เช่น พันธุ์ไม้ ของป่า
สัตว์ป่านานาชนิด ตลอดจนทิวทัศน์ ป่า ภูเขา และน้ำตกที่สวยงามยิ่ง
สมควรกำหนดให้เป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติ ตามพระราชบัญญัติอุทยานแห่งชาติ พ.ศ. 2504
เพื่อสงวนไว้ให้คงอยู่ในสภาพธรรมชาติเดิมมิให้ถูกทำลายหรือเปลี่ยนแปลงไป
เพื่อประโยชน์แก่การศึกษาและรื่นรมย์ของประชาชน
และเพื่ออำนวยประโยชน์อื่นแก่รัฐและประชาชน มีเนื้อที่ประมาณ 181,250 ไร่
หรือ 290 ตารางกิโลเมตร
เมื่อ
ปี พ.ศ. 2532 จังหวัดเพชรบูรณ์
ได้พบน้ำตกสวยงามเหมาะสมที่จะปรับปรุงเป็นแหล่งท่องเที่ยว
จึงได้ขอให้กรมป่าไม้ทำการสำรวจพื้นที่ส่วนหนึ่งของป่าสงวนแห่งชาติป่าตะ
เบาะและป่าห้วยใหญ่ ซึ่งอยู่ในพื้นที่ อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดเพชรบูรณ์
เพื่อจัดตั้งเป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติ
และกรมป่าไม้ได้ส่งเจ้าหน้าที่เข้าดำเนินการเมื่อกลางปี งบประมาณ 2534
ต่อมาได้ประกาศเป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติตามพระราชกฤษฎีกา ประกาศในราชกิจจานุเบกษา
ฉบับกฤษฎีกา เล่ม 115 ตอนที่ 78 ก หน้า 11 เมื่อวันที่ 30 ตุลาคม 2541
จัดเป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติลำดับที่ 87 ของประเทศไทย
ลักษณะภูมิประเทศ เป็นเทือกเขาสลับซับซ้อน เป็นต้นกำเนิดของห้วยน้ำดำ
ห้วยผึ้ง ห้วยกกไฮ ฯลฯ ซึ่งเป็นต้นน้ำลำธารของลุ่มน้ำป่าสัก และลุ่มน้ำชี
เป็นผืนป่าเดียวกันกับป่าอุทยานแห่งชาติน้ำหนาว
เขตรักษาพันธุ์สัตว์ป่าตะเบาะ-ห้วยใหญ่
ลักษณะภูมิอากาศ
โดยทั่วไปอากาศหนาวเย็นในตอนดึกและตอนเช้า ส่วนใหญ่ตอนกลางวันอากาศเย็นสบาย

ความสูงประมาณ 200-300 เมตร
สายน้ำที่โจนลงมาจากหน้าผาสูงทำให้สายน้ำแตกกระจายเป็นละอองน้ำคละคลุ้งไป
ทั่ว ยิ่งในช่วงฤดูฝนที่มีปริมาณน้ำมาก
ละอองน้ำจะฟุ้งกระจายจนไม่สามารถยืนอยู่ใกล้น้ำตกได้
อยู่ห่างจากที่ทำการอุทยานแห่งชาติไปตามทางถนน 7 กิโลเมตร
แล้วเดินลัดเลาะไปตามลำห้วยอีกประมาณ 2 กิโลเมตร จะถึงน้ำตก
ทางช่วงสุดท้ายเป็นทางขึ้นเขาชัน

ถึงสามแยกเลี้ยวขวาไปทางบ้านน้ำร้อน ตามทางหลวงจังหวัดหมายเลข 2275 ประมาณ
200 เมตร เลี้ยวซ้ายขึ้นอุทยานแห่งชาติตาดหมอก ตามเส้นทาง รพช.
(บ้านเฉลียงลับ- ตาดหมอก) ระยะทาง 19 กิโลเมตร
ถึงลานจอดรถแล้วเดินด้วยเท้าตามลำห้วยอีก 2 กิโลเมตร
เพื่อชมความงามน้ำตกตาดหมอก และน้ำตกสองนาง
