 พระที่นั่งวิมานเมฆ เป็นพระที่นั่งที่สร้างด้วยไม้สักทองที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในโลก หลัง มีลักษณะทางสถาปัตยกรรมที่งดงาม ประณีตและ ได้รับอิทธิพลการก่อสร้างแบบตะวันตก และเป็นพระที่นั่งถาวรองค์แรกในพระราชวังดุสิต พระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว โปรดเกล้าฯ ให้สร้างขึ้นในพระราชวังดุสิต (ซึ่งในรัชสมัยของพระองค์เรียกว่า พระราชวังสวนดุสิต) ในพ.ศ. 2444 โดยโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้รื้อพระที่นั่งมันธาตุรัตนโรจน์ ที่โปรดเกล้าฯ ให้สร้างขึ้นที่เกาะสีชังเมื่อพ.ศ. 2435 แต่ยังสร้างไม่เสร็จสมบูรณ์ โดยโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้พระราชโยธาเทพ (กร หงสกุล ต่อมาเป็นพระยาราชสงคราม) เป็นนายงานรื้อพระที่นั่งมันธาตุรัตนโรจน์จากเกาะสีชังมาสร้าง ในสวนดุสิต และพระราชทานนามว่า พระที่นั่งวิมานเมฆ และทรงวางศิลาฤกษ์ พระที่นั่งเมื่อวันที่ 31 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2443 โปรดเกล้าฯ ให้สมเด็จพระเจ้าบรมวงศ์เธอ เจ้าฟ้ากรมพระยานริศรานุวัดติวงศ์ทรงกำกับการออกแบบ และทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้มีการเฉลิมพระที่นั่งวิมานเมฆ เมื่อวันที่ 27 มีนาคม พ.ศ. 2445

นอกจากนั้นภายในเขตพระราชวังดุสิตยังมีสถานที่น่าสนใจอื่นๆ อีก ได้แก่

พิพิธภัณฑ์รถม้าพระที่นั่ง เป็นที่รวบรวมรถม้าพระที่นั่งโบราณซึ่งใช้ในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 5 รถม้าแต่ละคันเคยร่วมในพระราชพิธี สำคัญต่าง ๆ มีความสง่าสวยงาม และมีคุณค่าทางประวัติศาสตร์
